Article 59 JESUS, SON OF GOD ? |
|
The widely accepted view of the Trinity tells us that, " There are three persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one God, the same in substance, equal in power and glory. " Zondervan`s Pictorial Bible Dictionary. " It is true that Christianity speaks of the Father as the First Person, and the Son as the Second Person, and the Holy Spirit as the Third Person." Harper`s Bible Dictionary. The question arises as to how can the Second Person of the Godhead become the Son of the First Person when they are all equal ? A son comes from a father, whereas the Second Person always existed along with the First Person, and did not come from the First Person. A father is responsible for his son, and a son is responsible to his father. The Bible is clear that Adam was a son of God. Luke 3:38. God was responsible for Adam, and Adam was responsible to God. The one that gives life is responsible for the life given. This is a world-wide principle observed by humans created with an intelligence patterned after the divine intelligence. Parents are responsible for their children; food, clothing, and shelter... etc . Should the children break the neighbor`s window, the father must pay. Adam`s sin brought degradation and death to all humanity. Adam gave life to his descendants, and is responsible for them. Yet it was God who gave life to Adam, and GOD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ADAM. God must pay. While not the cause of sin, God is responsible for sin. How does God meet this responsiblity ? Romans 5:12,18 & 19, says that we became sinners because of Adam, and we become righteous before God because of Jesus, who is said to be the the last Adam in I Corinthians 15:45. God gave humanity another Father, another Adam. See "everlasting father" in Isaiah 9:6. Adam was a son of God. When the Second Person of the Godhead took Adam`s place, He became a Son of God. Understanding how Jesus became the Son of God, enables us to better understand the plan of salvation. We became sinners because of what Adam did, an act in which we had no part. We become righteous before God by what Jesus did, an act in which we had no part. SALVATION IS 100% THE WORK OF GOD ! Man has no part in it whatsoever. Our justification, our redemption, our righteousness are all IN--emphasis on IN-- Jesus. When the Holy Spirit draws us to Jesus, if we do not resist, we are given faith and repentance. The law, the nature of Christ, is written on the believers heart. This personal experience is a consequence, a results, a by-product of our salvation, and never the means, the cause of salvation. Romans 3:24-26; John 6:44;12:32;Ephesians 2:8; Acts 5:31. IT IS JESUS` EXPERIENCE THAT SAVES. THIS IS WHERE OUR FOCUS MUST BE ! If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affections on things above, not on things on earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Colossians 3:1-3.
